PHYSICAL EDUCATION

KEY STAGE 3

Students develop skills, knowledge and understanding by covering five areas of activities. These include, Invasion games, Striking and field games and net games; Dance and Gymnastic activities; Athletic activities and Outdoor and Adventurous activities. Students also cover Health Related Fitness unit in each year.

Y7

Students complete the following activities – Badminton, Gymnastics, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Athletics, Cricket/Rounders, Tennis, Trampolining, Netball/Football, Dance/Rugby, Basketball and Handball.

Y8 & Y9

In addition to the above students also complete a hockey module.

KEY STAGE 4

In core PE students have the opportunity to revisit some of the KS3 activities looking specifically at competition. They take on leadership roles, umpiring, coaching and choreographing work. All students also learn some basic first aid and access life skills activities such as aerobics and fitness.

GCSE PE

Students follow the AQA course in Physical Education which comprises practical work in Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Outdoor Education and Athletics.
Throughout Y10 and 11 students study topics including anatomy and physiology, movement analysis, physical training, sports psychology, socio-cultural influences and health, fitness and well-being.

CURRICULUM TIME

KS3: 2 hours

KS4: 2hours (Y10), 3 hours (Y11), 1 hour core (Y10/Y11)

ASSESSMENT

Paper 1: (30%) Written exam 1.25 hours (The human body and movement in physical activity and sport).

Paper 2: (30%) Written exam 1.25 hours (Socio-cultural influences and wellbeing in physical activity and sport).

Non-exam assessment: (40%) Practical performance in physical activity and sport.
